Rustic Pearl

Surry Hills is the suburb to venture to if you want a nice breakfast or lunch as it is bustling with cafes. Rustic Pearl was the first on our list to try due to a recommendation from a friend. We arrived on a Saturday at midday and we weren't surprised for it to be busy but luckily we didn't have to wait for a table. The restaurant is quite small consisting of some tables inside and a few right outside the cafe.

Avocado Smoothie
DT ordered the avocado smoothie which is blended with honey and topped with pistachios. I quite liked the taste of the smoothie with the honey but I am used to avocado smoothies without the honey so I much prefer them. The smoothie was of a creamy consistency and not too thick.

Turkish Apple Iced Tea
The perfect drink to have during summer. The tea was extremely fragrant especially with the addition of the rose. A very refreshing drink but I think they could have cut back on the sugar because it was a little too sweet for my liking. I did appreciate the addition of strawberries and apples though.

Sucuk Bruschetta
Consisting of chargrilled sucuk (Turkish sausage), melted buffalo mozzarella, fresh tomato, avocado, basil, rocket, pomegranate molasses and soft boiled egg, this dish was really delicious. The sausage, which I would liken to Italian pepperoni had an amazing punch of saltiness and spiciness that was balanced out by the creamy melted cheese, avocado spread on the bruschetta and the pomegranate molasses. This was on their breakfast and lunch menu for $17 which was quite expensive considering the serving could have been larger but it was still a great meal.

Char grilled Mediterranean Lamb Burger
The char grilled patty was extremely flavoursome, juicy and tender. The yoghurt dressing and eggplant puree did well to tone down the spices incorporated in the lamb patty and I felt the Mediterranean elements made the burger much tastier compared to typical lamb burgers which are sometimes a little bland. At $18 though I expected a side of fries with the burger.

Rustic Pearl is a nice little cafe serving great quality Mediterranean style food. It is a little on the expensive side considering the relatively small portions but the food is delicious and you will leave feeling satisfied.
