Memoirs of a Foodie

We paid a visit to The Grounds on a Thursday morning and were fortunate enough to find parking at the venue and in addition not have to wait in line which was completely unexpected. I had dined there on one occasion for lunch and had ordered their chicken burger which was less than impressive as the chicken was overcooked and dry so I was hoping their breakfast menu would be less of a disappointment.

Left to right: Hazelnut chocolate milkshake $8.00, flat white $3.80, mocha $3.80
What is with these overpriced milkshakes popping up everywhere nowadays? I cannot complain much though because it was a really good milkshake, creamy and full of Nutella/hazelnut goodness. The coffees were great too, very smooth, not burnt and sweetened to my liking.

Yasaka Ramen has recently emerged into the ramen restaurant scene and I was very eager to try it. Their ramen noodles come served in three different tonkotsu (pork) broths: shoyu (soy sauce), shio (salt) or miso. I really enjoyed the consistency of the broth, it was thick but not like Gumshara thick so if you are not up for the salty collagen-filled goodness of Gumshara ramen then this would be a suitable alternative if you are craving tonkotsu ramen. The soft-boiled egg replete with an oozy yolk centre was delicious and the garnishing of corn had a subdued sweetness which paired well with the ramen. The chashu was really decent as it had good flavour and was soft and tender. My only gripe is that there was only one piece. Then we get to the noodles which were excellent, as they were soft but still had a good bite to them.

I treated DT to a 10-course degustation at Rockpool for his birthday and it was surely a memorable dining experience. I could not fault the service as the waiters were attentive and quite friendly. They even make a note of what occasion is being celebrated and surprise you at the end.

Pink Apple - Ketel One Vodka with Creme de Cassis, spiced syrup and raspberry $19
The description of the cocktail led me to believe that this would be a relatively sweet cocktail however it was quite the contrary. It was quite sour and found it hard to finish, only managing a few sips in-between dishes.
