Memoirs of a Foodie

This little cafe is easily missed as it is tucked away in a lane way amongst neutral apartment buildings and we walked past the street initially while navigating with trusty Google Maps. The cafe was quite busy and it didn't help that the seating was very limited with a few small tables inside and some more outside. The tables were also very low which could be a little uncomfortable if you are a taller person. I already knew what I wanted from this much talked about cafe and that was their signature matcha latte and green tea chocolate fondant. As it was lunchtime we ordered their sandwiches too.

Poached free range chicken, chilli pickled Asian mushroom, iceberg lettuce, zucchini, white sesame and wasabi mayo $11
I loved the combination of enoki mushroom, zucchini and poached chicken as it made the sandwich so much less dry and really pleasant to munch on and appreciated that the sourdough bread was toasted as otherwise it would have been quite tough to bite. The general consensus was that the sandwich lacked in flavour though which was surprising as we thought the wasabi mayo would pack in some strong flavour. Overall, the ingredients melded well but would have been much improved if we could taste the wasabi mayo.

If you are in the mood for scrumptious bao then there is no better place to visit than Belly Bao which is located inside GOODGOD Small Club on Liverpool St. As it is a club, you can only get your bao fix at dinner time which is a shame and they are not open on Sundays much to our disappointment.

They serve up 6 delicious variations of bao: crackling roast pork belly, slow braised pork belly, panko crumbed chicken breast, soft shell crab, slow braised beef short rib and crispy tofu.
In hindsight we should have skipped the chicken wings and went for one of each bao instead just so we could have tried them all.

    Sweet potato fries $7
We can never not order sweet potato fries if they are on the menu because I think they are 10 times better than regular fries. These did not disappoint, they were crunchy and mildly sweet and the drizzle of chilli aioli perfected the whole ordeal.

Yang's Malaysian Food Truck has been on my go-to list as a food truck specialising in Malaysian cuisine was intriguing. I was quite certain I would never get the chance to visit because the truck usually frequents Sydney CBD Mondays to Fridays. Then they announced that they would be catering to the public on a Saturday in Marrickville from 12 - 7pm and thus an opportunity arose.  I was dying to try the soft shell crab which seems to be the signature dish as it is constantly raved about. Unfortunately for me, I could only get there at 5pm the earliest and the soft shell crab was nowhere to be found on the menu as it was sold out so we had no choice but to choose other items.

    Chicken curry roti canai $6
It is difficult to find authentic roti canai in Sydney (Mamak is the only restaurant that comes to mind) so I wasn't expecting roti canai that resembled that found in Malaysia but I was pleasantly surprised. Yang's roti canai was nice and flaky, just how it should be. I particularly enjoyed the generous topping of spicy chicken curry and found it difficult to stop eating it as each bite left me wanting more. It was so delicious that I was seriously contemplating buying another.
